Your business may be under attack, and the enemy could already be in your office! As computers and computer networks become increasingly vulnerable to attack , especially in an era of always-on broadband Internet connections, the need to protect your computers, their networks and their data, has never been greater. The threats they face are now highly malicious and serious counter-measures against determined attackers are needed. The best starting point is usually a barrier between your computers and the outside world – known as a firewall. Implemented in conjunction with other layers of defence (including anti-virus, anti-spyware and e-mail/web content filtering strategies) a comprehensive firewall is essentially a tightly-integrated set of hardware and software which usually sits at a network ‘gateway’. This is typically configured to deny unauthorised outsiders access, thus preventing unwanted intrusion to your network, while at the same time allowing your user’s access to the Internet and other services outside the firewall. Other defensive measures need to include the implementation of the latest best practice and other effective security procedures that can be applied to the day-to-day running of your business. As more and more organisations take advantage of low-cost broadband connections to the Internet, the opportunities for viruses or spyware to propagate, and for hackers to compromise security have grown dramatically. It is therefore surprising that as organisations make the switch to broadband, few of them give serious consideration to deploying an effective defence against such threats. Triplan has a wealth of experience in this area and is ideally placed to discuss your IT security needs. The first step towards strengthening your defences would typically involve a free threat assessment visit, where the various types of security problems are reviewed against the context of your business, and all the relevant issues may be highlighted and discussed. Working in close partnership with its customers, Triplan will then propose, and if necessary implement, a range of counter-measures to protect the integrity of your system. |
